Cancer Research Charity Bike Ride 2005

Tuesday, 24 May 2005 ‡ 21:00

A friend and i decided that we would help this worthy cause by attempting to cycle 8 miles around Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham on Sunday 29th May 2005. Anyone wishing to cheer me on is welcome at the event, which begins at 11:00.

I would like to thank the following people for their support, generous donation and their belief that i will manage to complete the course.

I will update this post with results and photos.

Once again, thanks for your support. Look out for the photo's, but don't blame me if they don't come out well, heads chopped off and blurred, wife is in charge of the camera, in her defence (he quickly adds) she will be looking after my hyperactive son, Arjun, who is a handful at the best of times.

Update

As promised, here are a few images from the Bike Ride. Partly cloudy and breezy, but it did not rain, which was good. There was about 250 riders, including kids as young as 10 years. My friend and i completed the course which was not too bad in terms of steep gradients. Between us we raised a little over £300.00, thanks to everyone's support.

Secure Credit Card Purchases

Sunday, 1 May 2005 ‡ 06:59

I have an idea to secure credit card purchases.

  • You register your mobile phone with your credit card company.
  • Each time you make a purchase over a certain amount in one transaction or a certain amount in one single day or just any online purchase, you receive a confirmation code as a text message.
  • You must then use this code when making the purchase, by showing the sales assistant or entering the code online during the order.
  • This code is then confirmed by the sales assistant or online store, allowing the credit card transaction to proceed.

I admit this will not totally eliminate fraud, but surely reduce criminals scamming and copying card details and stop anyone using your card, without your knowledge.

If this system is in place, anyone trying to use your card without your permission or by fraud, you will be immediately notified or at least notified before you get your credit card bill at the end of the month.
